1869 MIT Exam Paper Goes Viral For Being Too Easy, Can You Crack It?

A question paper from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's entrance exam from 1869 has recently gained attention on social media for being "surprisingly easy."

The paper, dated June 1869, released eight years after the institute's founding. It was shared on social media by a Reddit user and had seven questions from the algebra section.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, widely regarded as the leading institution for engineering, mathematics and science globally, has been home to over 101 Nobel laureates and 8 Fields Medalists, either as faculty or alumni since its founding in 1861, nearly 200 years ago.

With an acceptance rate of just 4%, the institute is extremely hard to get into. Candidates must navigate multiple eligibility rounds and demonstrate exceptional academic performance. They must also perform impressive extracurricular activities, write essays. Even with these qualifications, securing a place at this renowned institution is not guaranteed.

The Reddit post has ignited a surge of curiosity and discussion among users, with many claiming that the exam paper is extremely easy to solve.

"None of the above problems require a calculator! They only require basic understanding of Algebra. Most can be solved mentally without even requiring to put pen on paper to be honest," wrote a user on Reddit.

"Yeah these are surprisingly easy, I didn't actually solve them but there is nothing here I don't know how to solve, and I only have high-school level math from decades ago," another user wrote.

While many users argued that the question paper was too easy to solve, others held a different opinion, suggesting it was harder to complete than it appeared.

"This just the entrance exam, and had multiple sections - it also had a geometry and arithmetic section.

On top of this, you'd be expected to do these calculations unaided (i.e. no slide rules). MIT hadn't developed its reputation at this point in time and was only 8 years old," wrote a user.

The original exam is reported to include additional sections covering geometry, arithmetic, English, and calculus.

"Keep My Name Out Of Political Battles": Samantha To Telangana Minister

Actor Samanta Ruth Prabhu has issued a hard-hitting response to Telangana minister Konda Surekha's comments linking Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader KT Rama Rao with her divorce. Calling the remarks a "trivialisation" of her journey as a woman and "misrepresentation" of facts, she said the minister should be "responsible and respectful of individuals' privacy".

"My divorce is a personal matter and I request that you refrain from speculating about it... To clarify: my divorce was mutual consent and amicable, with no political conspiracy involved," the actor wrote in a message on her Instagram.

In a scathing attack on KT Rama Rao, son of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Ms Surekha linked him with the divorce of Samantha Ruth Prabhu and her former husband Naga Chaitanya.

She had also said he was the reason why many actresses left movies and married early. KT Rama Rao, she claimed, blackmailed film personalities after getting them addicted to drugs.

"They Forgot...": Gavaskar's Blunt Analysis Of Bangladesh's Kanpur Collapse

On the last day of the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test in Kanpur on Tuesday, the visitors went from three down to seven down in the space of just three runs. Eight sessions were lost in the first three days due to persistent rain and it seemed that the game would just meander to a dull draw. However, after bowling out Bangladesh for 233, India destroyed the visitors' attack to take a 52-run lead, all in just 34.4 overs. The approach opened up the game. Then India kept Bangladesh under the pump, bowling them out for a mere 146 in the second essay and raced to the 95-run target in 17.2 overs.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar had an interesting take on Bangladesh's batting.

"I thought that maybe they forgot this is a Test match. There are plenty of days, and this is, of course, the last day. Some of the shots that we saw... from Shanto — you're right, when the shot comes off, it looks brilliant. When it doesn't come off, you have to think, what have you tried to do?" Gavaskar said on air.

"Then Shadman after reaching his half-century, playing a loose shot outside the off stump, these are things where he could have capitalised and gone on to get a hundred."

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe on Tuesday admitted that his team was blown away by India's “not-seen-before” aggressive batting that eventually forced a result in the weather-hit second Test.

“This approach was not seen before and we did not react quickly. Credit to Rohit (Sharma) and his team for taking such an approach and making a game out of it,” Hathurusinghe said.

Understandably, Hathurusinghe said the defeat was painful, especially coming to these shores after a 2-0 series win over Pakistan.

“This defeat is really hurting us. Batting has been disappointing. We have not been performing to our potential in the last few series,” the coach added.

Asked if his bowlers did a better job than the batters, Hathurusinghe said he won't compare his players.

“Both are my players. Another factor is the quality of the opposition, and the skill level on display in this series was very high. We are learning a lot from here.” Hathurusinghe said the series taught his side about the areas they needed to improve.

“Going forward, we will know what the top standard is, since this is the best team. Playing India is the toughest assignment at this stage, so we know how much we need to improve,” he added.

Ashwin's Blockbuster 3-Word Reaction After Bumrah Overtakes Him To Be No. 1

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah regained his spot as the number one Test batter, while young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal moved to third spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings issued on Wednesday. Ashwin claimed five wickets of his own during that match and is only one point behind Bumrah's rating of 870 points, while Bangladesh will be buoyed by the improvements made from Mehidy Hasan (up four spots to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th).

Ashwin's Insta story celebrated Bumrah's latest achievement. "You belong here," wrote Ashwin.

In-form Sri Lanka right-hander Kamindu Mendis is another player on the move, with the 26-year-old improving five places to 11th and reaching a new career-high rating after he scored another century in the second Test of his side's recent series with New Zealand.
